Wolsey Hall Oxford

  • Since 1894, Wolsey Hall Oxford has provided educational access for students who wouldn’t have access otherwise. More than 750,000 students from the UK and around the world have gained qualification with Wolsey Hall through home study, including civil rights activist and former South African President Nelson Mandela.

As a completely virtual school, Wolsey Hall relies on the Canvas Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to help overcome the social isolation of home study. Using Canvas discussion forums and conferencing features, Wolsey Hall students from different locales and backgrounds can come together as a connected community of learners. The Canvas learning platform is “at the heart” of everything Wolsey Hall does.

Beyond enabling communication among tutors and students, Canvas serves as the repository for all course resources, including assignments and assignment submissions. Because Canvas makes it easy for tutors to show students how to do experiments at home, it increases opportunities for practical learning. According to college administrators, they chose Canvas because it combines excellent pedagogy with reliability. “We know it’s always going to be there for us when we need it.”
